I had the amazing opportunity to attend a conference in Nairobi, Kenya! The conference theme centered around innovation and technology in Africa. Researchers from across Africa came to share their engineering research on a range of different topics, including sustainability, healthcare, mobile networks, power, infrastructure, and education. It was very interesting to hear about the advances in Kenya specifically, as they are pushing to move to electric vehicles and reduce their carbon emissions. I got to meet people from Uganda, Nigeria, Rwanda, and more. I also got to present on my work on virtual clinics, which received a lot of great questions and feedback.
Of course, I had to have a little fun in Nairobi while I was there! I had the chance to go sightseeing in the Nairobi National Park, which is right in the middle of the city! There, I went on a safari where a tour guide and I drove around the park spotting animals. I saw zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, buffalo, white rhinos, hippos, crocodiles, and of course... lions! There were so many lions in the park, and we even got to watch a group of moms and babies try to hunt! They were unsuccessful, but it was so cool to see nature in action. I felt so lucky to be able to see not one, not two, but three different groups of lions while we drove around. It was definitely an experience I will never forget.
