Meeting Jennifer Jones

Yesterday, I got to go to a very special Rotary event held here in Cape Town! Rotary International President Jennifer Jones paid a visit to South Africa on her tour around the world. She presented to members of District 9350 on her vision for Rotary and shared many interesting stories of what she's seen. Below is a photo with myself, DG 9350 Tracey Wilson, and Jennifer Jones at the event.

Jennifer Jones is the first woman president of Rotary International. It is inspiring to see what was once only a man's club (until 1989!) be now led by such a capable and motivated woman. I learned yesterday that this year's logo for the Imagine theme even has a slight nod to this fact in that the colors are green, purple, and white (representing International Women's Day).

One of the quotes Jennifer mentioned really stuck out to me - "To have the society we desire, we must build it ourselves." This is a continuous reminder that it is the job of each and every one of us to contribute to the world in the ways that we can, so that we build a better society not only for ourselves but for others as well.

This event was very special and I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to hear such an amazing speaker. I look forward to seeing the direction Jennifer Jones leads Rotary to as she finishes her year as President!
